Here's a reprise from 1999. Remember that time? Y2K? I do. I spent that year crafting plans to save my client's websites from a 'catastrophic' calendar fail, trained as a life coach, and slung large glasses of merlot, plates of panzanella, rack of lamb, and brown butter-sauced scallops inside a 'former bordello'– and outside under a big Beech tree (in Jamestown, RI).

I've modernized this piece a bit, but the overall oomph remains the same: that you CAN design your life. Honestly, you can stop at #2 and call it a day. I'm not kidding.
This is because destiny is an idea that has meaning to you, and is usually felt with remembrance and surprise: "Oh yes! This is what I was made for!"
If you'd like a lovely destiny, you may need accept your current moment as destiny from an earlier time, then re-envision what you'd like, taking little bits of action toward it daily. So to help you along, here's a handy 'mindset checklist' 1999-2026 style:
Top Ten Ways to Design Your Destiny
1. Decide you can do it. You already are. Every decision you make every day creates your destiny. Awaken to this idea and you can more plainly drive your experience.
2. Energize your desires. Desires aligned with decisions create energy. Then even small action steps can pack a huge amount of power.
3. Follow your intuition. Let your intuition guide you, and lead you in some important directions as you...
4. Take the lead in your life. Step up and claim your role as key lead in your experience. Your life influences people, whether you want it to or not, so your best path to change the world is to first change you.
5. Make action your passion. Take small steps as soon as you find a great way forward. Even list writing can help. What helps bring your destiny to the fore? Do something you are afraid of that you know will help get you there.
6. Evaluate the invaluable - Your Values. Know your values and know yourself. Your values make you gravitate toward certain relationships, choose actions to take, and feel grounded while you do them. If you value learning, you'll gravitate toward situations that teach you. If you value integrity, you'll do the right thing. If you value people, you'll give energy to them.
7. Inform your intentions. Just like your values, you can choose intentions. What do you want to happen in the world? Why do you want that? Know your full-bodied intentions, even the less than lovely ones, and you'll accomplish more. Tip: keep choosing wisely, on only the best among them.
8. Balance your beliefs. Each belief you cultivate can serve, facilitate growth, or leave you in the dark. If you believe that people help people, then you'll notice when this happens. If you believe people don't care, then you'll experience that. Really, both can be true at once, so if you can stand in the center of the seesaw of beliefs and help keep it from crashing to either side, you'll bring equanimity to your place in your situation.
9. Enhance your heart Your heart has an intelligence all it's own, a softer one, a passionate one, love made manifest. There is a reason great literature and art touches the heart– it can move us in directions with mystery. If you'd like to achieve your designed destiny in this lifetime, your heart can only help you.
10. Develop your devotion to that which really matters to you. Designing your destiny is fun for five minutes, but what is your daily life all about? Do daily practices show YOU what you are devoted to. Meditation, Cooking, Nature Time, Gardening, Exercise, Socializing, Church, Work, Creativity – all good. The idea is to make a daily practice of action and do it with intention.

Today I needed to fill in some paperwork to pick up an official birth certificate for my youngest child and was struck how, as a woman, I've needed to repeatedly confront who I am just to do simple tasks like this. Because, you know, names. I wonder if other women find themselves in quandaries or irritations around this? Especially young …

I cover nature. Daily drawings are digital finger painting atop photos, including collage-symbols made from other moments in time. These personal symbols are stored as stickers in my phone. I use them, often, like a 1o year old with a Tarot deck. These pieces are often created from my bed, in the dark. I am practicing, so even when I'm …

Some content here is political, some personal, much of it philosophical, and all of it meant to shine some light into the lives of my readers, because it was written to shine light into mine.

POLITICAL ACTION AREA It's likely best to plug into your local groups, and show up in the ways you can. Peaceful crowd sizes matter, as does your positive energy and adherence to non-violence. APRIL 25 is a National Day to Protest ICE.
