I cover nature.
Daily drawings are digital finger painting atop photos, and include collage-symbols made from other moments in time. These personal symbols are stored as images in my phone. I collage with them, and draw atop using only my fingers.
It’s digital art (of the digits) in a digital age. Someone must make the best of this.
These pieces are sometimes completed in bed, in the dark. I practice now, so even when I’m old, I can still make art and share symbols for others to see.
My “thesis” is developing. It involves text and images, storytelling and hiding, and holding space for many paradoxes.
Sometimes I cover human-made things. I follow lens flare, because that’s a lens on a lens that reveals light at play.
I also cover creative process, like a journalist. And I cover healing from rude awakening, as a gentle subject.
When I see, there are symbols in most places: dots and lines, shapes and patterns. My field of vision is a frame. Wherever I look in nature, is beauty.
Symbols inside these edges tell me the truth of the moment. The symbols inform me of my place, my identity, which show me how time works, and reach my ancestry.
The symbols I see tell me I am safe and in an okay, connected place, even when the art later appears “dark” or complicated. I see what we’ve collectively done, and much was meant to be “good.”
We are not living in only sunshine and rainbows, but we can transmute dark to light, with care and insight. We can literally light up the night, like Thomas Edison or Tesla. Even if we don’t practically do this, we witness lighting each morning. The sun always rises, and will do so for our entire lifetime.
So to share these insights with you, I cover them.
I also rarely tell viewers where the place I’ve photographed actually is. will you be kind and loving there? Will you respect how nature talks to us, and leave no trace?
Minimal impact comes to nature via digital art, I hope. I can sketch every day and only use a touch of electricity, yet thousands of you can see the work, experience process, and maybe read symbols in sticks and stones too. Democratized, free, and also authentic.
Authentic art in digital realm: that’s begs another question in the days of rising AI. Can human expression cut through like signal cuts through noise?
I cover nature because I love it, and it loves me. I need birds chirping, skies blue & skies crying, lying in the grass, and leaves decaying beneath my feet. I need water flowing, aromas, creatures, sticks, stones, seaweed, and my relationships with trees.
Some people photograph selfies, or friends, or exclusive places with image-makers and post these to community. Memory keeping, or happy dispatches? We’ll never know about others – posts are always curated. So are mine. I must be my own curator too.
