A Prompt for Nature Knowledge

Some days I walk through the woods and wonder “what is nature telling me today?”

The answers are always simple.

Nature tells me that old needles fall off, and make for soft footfalls for walking.

Nature tells me that a tree with bark off is a place to be quiet.

Nature tells me that moss can make cliffs, and these drops are huge to tiny things.

Nature shares noises, all kinds of noises, like birds I learn to discern, and breezes I don’t dare to. The winds carry all of my secrets | Privacy.

Walking this way, through the woods with this question, yields a rich experience of knowing. You can know things too. Things that help you understand your whole self, even the hidden things.

Seeing answers deep and earthy and grassy and cold. And you feel them in your nostrils and in your bones.
